Greetings!
July 4th is the day we celebrate our independence. These days we often
take our personal liberties for granted. We've also gotten used to being 'always
connected', whether by landline, mobile phone or internet. We have not only
freedom of speech, but the freedom to speak to someone thousands of miles away
on demand.
We enjoy immediate access to information wherever we are. Is this good?
We think so. Have you worked from home lately? Isn't it great? It's quieter,
there are fewer interruptions, you're more productive and you can't beat the
commute! We merge our work responsibilities into our daily lives....and we get
more done. Back in Thomas Jefferson's day, a business trip meant you were gone
for months. Today you can accomplish more in a day and without leaving your home.
'Always connected' means access to whatever we need or want to know. All
the information is there, sometimes too much. At Watershed Networks we think of
ourselves as a magnet hanging over the haystack. We gather and research
information about telecom systems and present it in a multimedia format that is
easy to understand. We deliver information in a variety of ways and we provide
exercises to insure comprehension. Part of what the Declaration of Independence
really means is that anyone can make themselves great, no matter where they come
from, no matter who they are. We have the freedom to learn, the freedom to share
information and the freedom to improve our knowledge, our skills and ourselves.
Remember when you had to get on a plane and stay in some strange city,
just to hear some smart person talk to you? Then you came home lugging all kinds
of books and papers, many of which you never read again. Today you can enjoy
the liberty to learn wherever and whenever you want to. We discovered recently
that, among our site license customers whose employees have free access to any
of our courses, more than 25% of course time was spent on weekends, evenings and
early mornings. Give your employees the freedom to expand their knowledge and
they will show you a level of motivation you might not expect.
Sincerely, Walt Mansell
